I have been totally swamped over since the last post and have managed to completely ignore this website. My bad, but we must all prioritise, right? Anyway, having noticed a slow but steady decline in traffic to this website I decided that the least I can do is add a quick post. The topic? Simple, the very issue that brings me here to write this post. How often should a website be updated? Content is Bling, or as is commonly described in the SEO’s world, content is king. SEO is about improving the ranking of your web site and by designing it in such a way that it will appear higher in the SERPs (Search Engine’s Results Pages). A website that’s optimised for the SERPs can reap huge benefits for your web site and for your business.

A good web site will have quality content, good navigation and strong branding to help achieve it’s goals. Acquiring links should be an important one of those goals and if your web site achieves the kind of quality standards your visitors expect, some of your visitors will want to link to you. SEO can be very time consuming but doing a simple thing like ensuring you add relevant title meta tags to all of your pages is an extremely valuble investment. Most small businesses or individual web site publishers simply do not have the time to ensure their web site(s) are optimized head-to-toe, not without an SEO professional, not with a website which is any larger than 10 pages and certainly not if you are running your own blog pages allong-side of a full-time job. If there were only time to do one thing for your website’s SEO and one thing alone, I would recommend treating yourself to well thought-out title tags. Read the rest »

Web Site Architecture can have a direct impact on the way search engines interpret your information and determine its relevency. We will look at some of the things you must be aware of from the very start, before the website design phase even begins. We wouldn’t want to kill SEO (Search Engine Optimization) opportunities at this stage; nobody likes doing the same job twice and if the information architecture is tainted, that’s exactly what you will end up needing to do. I’ve seen it happen; many times over. Read the rest »

A Search Engine results page, or SERP, is the listing of web pages returned by a Search Engine in response to a keyword query. The results normally include a list of web pages with titles, a link to the page, and a short description showing where the keywords have matched content within the page. Some of the major search engines also provide a link to their own cached version of the page, which they store locally on their own servers for reference. A SERP may refer to a single page of links returned, or to the set of all links returned for a search query. Read the rest »

Search Engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks”, the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. Read the rest »
